Cheers to the fall by andra day

iTunes Review

In the opening moments of Cheers to the Fall, Andra Day sings, “There’s nothin’ I can sing now, that ain’t been sung before.” It might seem like a confession, but as Day blasts through her debut album with grit and style to spare, she proves to be a soul revivalist with refreshing verve—and a kindred spirit to powerhouse singers like Etta James and Amy Winehouse. Most of the music is brassy retro-soul with a sweltering Stax inflection (“Forever Mine,” “Gold,” “Gin & Juice”), but when Day opens up with a big-hearted ballad like “Rise Up,” she’s just as stunning.

Solange - A Seat at the Table

iTunes Review

A confessional autobiography and meditation on being black in America, this album finds Solange searching for answers within a set of achingly lovely funk tunes. She finds intensity behind the patient grooves of “Weary,” expresses rage through restraint in “Mad,” and draws strength from the naked vulnerability of “Where Do We Go.” The spirit of Prince hovers throughout, especially over “Junie,” a glimmer of merriment in a exquisite portrait of sadness.

iTunes Review

This Los Angeles-based trio combine warm synth textures, rich vocal harmonies, and an anything-can-happen attitude on their heady, self-produced debut. Quiet Storm sultriness and the pillowy softness of dream pop intermingle on tracks like the otherworldly “Love Song” and the swaying “Right One”; romantic victory lap “The Greatest” calls back to R&B’s past while keeping an eye…

Chris Brown-Royalty

iTunes Review:

No matter what life throws at R&B bad boy Chris Brown, he stays focused and confident. His seventh album Royaltygives Team Breezy plenty to obsess over. He keeps the focus on himself—only three guests are featured, Future being one of them (“U Did It”). Music styles like trap, EDM, and G-funk pepper the tracks, thrusting him deeper into the pop jet stream. He confirms his super lover status on “Back to Sleep” and “Little Bit” and estimates how much chill he has on “Zero” and “No Filter.” Like…
